Joining ONU Optical Network Unit LPO

Installing an ONU involves proper site preparation, secure mounting, fiber and power connections, and configuration with the OLT to ensure reliable network service. 1.

Site Preparation

Before installation, conduct a site survey to assess network infrastructure, fiber availability, distance limitations, and power requirements. Ensure the location allows proper heat dissipation, is free from moisture, and provides easy access for maintenance. Avoid outdoor installation unless the ONU is rated for outdoor use, and ensure the area meets IP protection standards if using a network box.

2.

Mounting the ONUON

Us can be desktop-mounted, wall-mounted, or installed in a network box. For wall mounting: Mark two positions on the wall matching the ONU's mounting holes. Drill holes and insert expansion bolts.

Fasten screws, leaving about 5 mm protruding, and hang the ONU securely. Ensure ports face down to prevent dust ingress and maintain airflow around heat dissipation sides. 3.

Fiber and Network Connections

Connect the ONU's PON port to the OLT via a fiber optic cable, using a PLC splitter if required.

Connect LA

N ports to local devices using RJ45 cables. If applicable, connect telephone POTS ports and CATV RF ports. Maintain proper fiber bending radius and strain relief to prevent signal loss.

4.

Power Supply

Use a stable and reliable power source capable of meeting the ONU's requirements. Consider a backup power solution like a UPS to prevent service interruptions during outages. 5.

Configuration with OLTEnsure OLT-ONU compatibility before deployment. Use management protocols such as CLI, HTTP, SNMP, TR-069, or Telnet to register and configure the ONU. Assign bandwidth, configure services (Internet, VoIP, IPTV), and verify upstream and downstream connectivity.

6.

Testing and Verification

Check signal strength and quality at the ONU. Verify that all connected devices can access the network. Confirm that services like VoIP, IPTV, and WiFi are functioning correctly.

Label and organize fiber connections for easy troubleshooting. 7.

Best Practices

Avoid stacking ONUs horizontally on desktops. Keep air intake and exhaust vents unobstructed. Use high-quality ONUs from reputable vendors to ensure long-term reliability.

Plan network topology (Point-to-Multipoint or Point-to-Point) according to subscriber density and traffic load. Following these steps ensures a stable, scalable, and high-performance ONU deployment at your LPO, supporting reliable broadband services for end users.
