Installation of wall-mounted optical distribution box accessories

Wall-mounted optical distribution boxes can be efficiently installed using proper mounting, cable management, and accessory placement to ensure secure and organized fiber connections.

Selecting the Box and Accessories

Choose a wall-mounted optical distribution box suitable for your network needs, such as splice-only, splice-and-patch, or connectorized types. Boxes like the MTeH EASY, MTeH UNI, or TeH MINI support various capacities (up to 72 splices) and connector types (SC, LC) and come with pre-installed or optional accessories like splice trays, adapter plates, and PLC splitters. Ensure the box meets IP and impact protection standards for indoor use.

Mounting the Box

Determine the installation location on a flat wall surface, considering cable entry points and accessibility for maintenance. Mark and drill mounting holes according to the box's base or bracket dimensions. Secure the box using screws and wall anchors if necessary.

Some boxes allow mid-span access or side entrance for wall rails.

Cable Entry and Fixing

Use pre-moulded knockouts or grommets to introduce optical cables into the box, protecting fibers from sharp edges. Maintain a cable reserve inside the box to prevent tension on fibers when accessing the front panel. Recommended cable length is at least 31 inches for pull-out panels.

Fix cables with cable ties or movable tie points to organize and secure fibers.

Installing Accessories

Splice trays: Place fibers in trays according to the box's capacity (e.g., 12, 24, or 48 splices). Ensure fibers are not bent beyond their minimum bend radius. Adapter plates: Install SC or LC adapters on the front panel for patching or connectorized connections.

Removable panels allow easy access for maintenance.

PL

C splitters or optional splicing modules: Position according to network design, ensuring proper routing and protection of fibers.

Cable Management

Route fibers neatly along guides or brackets inside the box. Avoid sharp bends, pulling, or crushing fibers. Use drawer-style or pull-out panels for high-density wiring to facilitate access and reduce stress on fibers.

Final Checks

Close the box securely and verify that all fibers are properly routed and protected. Confirm that the box cover is in place to maintain IP protection and prevent dust or accidental contact. Test fiber connections to ensure signal integrity before completing the installation.

By following these steps and using the appropriate accessories, wall-mounted optical distribution boxes can be installed efficiently, providing organized, secure, and maintainable fiber optic connections for indoor networks.
