Household Distribution Box Switch Parameter Configuration

Proper configuration of a household distribution box involves selecting the correct MCBs, RCCBs, and wiring layout based on load type, wire size, and safety standards.

Key Components and Their Roles

Main MC

B (Double Pole): Acts as the primary switch controlling the entire household supply. Typically rated at 63A for domestic installations, it connects the incoming phase and neutral to the distribution system.

RCC

B (Residual Current Circuit Breaker): Provides protection against leakage currents, electrical shocks, and insulation faults. Its current rating should match the main MCB.

Branch MC

Bs (Single or Double Pole): Protect individual circuits such as lighting, sockets, air conditioners, and kitchen appliances.

Single-pole MC

Bs are used for phase-only connections, while double-pole MCBs are used for high-power or special loads.

Circuit Allocation and Ratings

Bedrooms: Air conditioners (1. 5–2. 0 HP) typically use 16–20A MCBs with leakage protection.

Living Room: Floor-type air conditioners (~4 kW) require 25A MCBs or RCCBs. Lighting Circuits: General lighting can use 10A MCBs, while bathroom lighting may require 16A. Kitchen and Toilets: High-power sockets for appliances or water heaters use 32A MCBs with 4 mm² wiring.

Common Sockets: Standard sockets are usually protected by 20A MCBs, with separate circuits for each bedroom recommended for maintenance convenience.

Wiring and Layout Considerations

Busbar Arrangement: Place the main switch on the far left, high-power breakers closest to the source, and low-power breakers on the right to manage heat distribution. Wire Connections: Phase and neutral from the main supply connect to the main MCB, then to the RCCB, and finally to branch MCBs. Earth wires must be connected to the earth link.

Distribution Box Dimensions: For fewer than 20 switches with incoming wires 10 mm²). Separate high-power and low-power circuits to prevent overloads and simplify maintenance. By carefully selecting MCB and RCCB ratings, allocating circuits according to load, and following proper wiring and spacing standards, a household distribution box can provide safe, reliable, and efficient electrical distribution throughout the home.
