Reducing Tee Cable Tray

A reducing cable tray tee is a three-way fitting that allows cable trays to branch while reducing the width of one branch, enabling efficient cable routing in constrained spaces.

Function and Purpose

A reducing cable tray tee connects three cable tray sections, forming a T-shaped junction, while one branch is narrower than the main run. This allows for efficient cable distribution where space or cable volume decreases along one branch, maintaining proper support and organization for electrical wiring.

Types and Materials

Reducing tees are available in ladder and solid-bottom tray types. Ladder trays typically use I-shaped rungs, while solid-bottom trays have a flat sheet over the rungs. Common materials include aluminum for lightweight, corrosion-resistant applications, and stainless steel for heavy-duty or washdown environments.

Some reducing tees are designed to meet NEMA standards for compatibility with specific cable tray classes.

Dimensions and Compatibility

Rail heights: 4"–7"Widths: 6"–36"Radii: 12"–36"Reducer sizes: Common reductions include 6"x6" to 4"x6", 4"x6" to 4"x4", or 6"x6" to 3"x3" depending on the system. These fittings are compatible with I-BEAM ladder tray systems and other NEMA-standard trays, ensuring proper alignment and structural integrity.

Installation Considerations

Ensure the reducing tee matches the tray type, width, and rail height of the existing system. Use appropriate splice plates or connectors to secure the tee to the main and reduced branches. Consider load capacity and cable fill to prevent overloading the reduced branch.

For industrial or corrosive environments, select stainless steel or coated aluminum to enhance durability.

Applications

Reducing cable tray tees are widely used in: Industrial plants and factoriesCommercial buildings with varying cable volumesData centers and network installationsAreas requiring space optimization while maintaining cable support By using a reducing tee, installers can branch off cable runs efficiently without compromising structural support or cable management standards.
